Attending theatre almost nightly unfortunately leaves no time for seeing movies, but we have participated in one filmmaking project (as co-producers, not through our CCT Donor Advised Fund): Stephen Cone’s Princess Cyd. We were attracted to the project because of Stephen’s reputation for making thoughtful, substantive, character-driven films, and the fact that he consistently casts many fine Chicago stage actors (in roles both large and small) in his films. Becoming co-producers seemed to be a great way to support acting-related day-jobs for Chicago actors we admire and respect.
After well-received showings at film festivals in the US, London, Hong Kong, Australia, and Copenhagen, Princess Cyd began theatrical runs in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles in late 2017.
We were thrilled that Princess Cyd made a number of “best of 2017” lists, including
- Vanity Fair‘s 10 Best Movies of 2017
- NPR’s Favorite Movies of 2017
- Vox’s 21 Best Movies of 2017
- Vox’s 2017’s Best Under-the-Radar Movies
- Vulture’s 10 Best Movies of 2017
- The Film Stages’s Top 50 Films of 2017
- In Review’s Year in Review 2017 – Film
